CONTENT CREATION - CREATE VS CURATE
CONTENT CREATION - CREATE VS CURATE
It's now easy to write about anything and everything but it's not so easy to create content consistently. The option to take a break from creating and curate instead may be just what you need. We'll take a dive into what each entails and answer some questions along the way to ensure that you make the right decision for your brand and/business.
Content creation is the act of creating a piece of content that is meaningful, valuable, and attractive to your target audience. This can be almost anything (e.g., blog articles, videos, images) as long as it fits into your overall business, purpose, promotion, and marketing outreach strategy. Content creation generally takes more time due to research, brainstorming, writing, editing and graphics design. The good news is that once the content you've created is good you can repurpose and use it several times over.
So then, what is content CURATION?
Content curation is the process of sourcing, collecting, and publishing content that fits into your overall business marketing strategies. This can include reposting content from other publishers or creating similar/related content to complement your business' overall outreach strategy. One of the big perks is that curation minimizes the time invested by the business in creating new content and saves time both on back-end researching, editing and designing.
There is no exact answer to this question; it depends on your business goals and marketing needs. There are some advantages and disadvantages of both options and we've taken a look at a few below.
Content creation helps you differentiate your brand from the rest of the pack.
Content creation can help you stand out from the competition and differentiate yourself from others in your field.
You have unlimited freedom with content creation because it is an original work by you.
You can curate various content from various sources to ensure you have an endless supply of relevant information and formats of content.
Curating trending images and topics can help you reach new audiences and build brand awareness.
You consistently provide content for your audience without the heavier investment in time (especially if you limited on human resources).
So, create or curate?
I say a healthy mix of both is ideal. Create to show your authenticity and expertise. Curate to keep it interesting and to help with consistency. The goal is always the same: to engage, educate and entertain your fans and followers. Once your content does that you've won.
