INSTAGRAM ANNOUNCES A RETURN TO CHRONOLOGICAL FEED
Social media managers and users everywhere rejoice as the much demanded chronological feed returns.
Instagram announced on March 23, 2022 that users will now have the option to switch between Following and Favourites. What's the difference?
Your Favourites is a curated list of the accounts of your choosing. You can add up to 50 accounts to this list and accounts are not notified when they are added or removed from your list. In addition, favourites show up higher in your home feed.
Your Following is the feed showing the content from persons you follow. Both settings will show you in the order in which the content was posted; so chronologically.
What happens if your followers select the favourites feed and your brand or profile did not make the cut?
It seems Instagram has thought about that too and these accounts can still be reached through a suggested or recommended feature (where they show content you may like in your feed) and of course with sponsored ads.
To start selecting your Favourites open the app, tap on the Instagram logo at the top left on your home feed, select "Favourites" and use the menu on your right to add yours.
With the introduction of these tailored feeds, there is even more pressure to keep providing content that delights your followers.
What might keep them coming back to the home feed? Stories and lives. For now, you are unable to view Stories and Lives in the traditional way at the top of the app. Users growing attachment to this format just might keep them toggling back and forth between the feeds.
